An interface is a surface forming a common boundary of two or more bodies, spaces, or phases. It is the place at which two or more otherwise independent phenomena meet, act and communicate with each other. The two artist have pursued both material and immaterial, lingual and non-lingual ways of communicating; talking, making and sounding together. Their discussions have focused on various ways in which this communication can take form, the interface being this place or state of in-between that is often so hard to articulate. It easily becomes blurry. The present is often the blurry one in-between the past we uphold through memory and the future we project ourselves onto. So, how to manifest or communicate this in-between?
The memory of a lost relative manifested shortly in the ephemeral smoke in-between a burning artifact and its subsequent remaining ashes. The conjuring up of now lost buildings and industrial architecture, ghostlike structures asking the question how we deal with our own past and shared history. Perhaps most central to ‘INTERFACE’ is the notion of how we deal with nostalgia. What is the relation between remembrance, reminiscing and nostalgia? How do we deal with the inevitable morphing caused by the passing of time?
